The realm of Undertale is not always one of gentle souls and heartfelt choices. For those who tread the path of a Neutral Route, a truly terrifying encounter awaits: the monstrous transformation of Flowey into Omega Flowey. This is not merely a boss battle; it is a descent into a digital abyss, a confrontation with pure, unadulterated malice amplified by the very essence of human determination.

The Genesis of Omega Flowey
Flowey, initially a seemingly harmless, talking flower, reveals his true, malevolent nature as the final boss of the Neutral Route. This transformation into Omega Flowey is a direct consequence of his actions following the protagonist's confrontation with Asgore Dreemurr. In a brutal display of power and a twisted interpretation of the world's inherent cruelty, Flowey either kills the weakened King Asgore and shatters his soul, or simply destroys Asgore's soul if the protagonist has already chosen to end Asgore's life. This act, coupled with his absorption of the six human SOULs, fuels his metamorphosis into the nightmarish entity known as Omega Flowey. The phrase "in this world… it's KILL or BE killed" becomes his chilling mantra as he embraces this amplified power.
The introduction to this monstrous form is itself a corrupted experience. The game's opening cinematic is altered, displaying a distorted image and jittery text. The game then presents the player with a unique SAVE file, labelled "My World" or "Floweytale" in PC versions, where Flowey’s LV is set to an impossible 9999 and playtime is maxed out. This SAVE file places the protagonist in a dark void, leading to a SAVE Point that, when interacted with, is violently destroyed by Flowey's immense face bursting through the dialogue box. He declares his intention to absorb the protagonist's SOUL, becoming godlike and revealing the "REAL meaning of this world"-a world of unending violence.
The Anatomy of Terror
Omega Flowey's appearance is a grotesque fusion of organic and mechanical elements, a true embodiment of corrupted power. His body is a distorted flower-shaped hybrid, incorporating plant tissue, unsettling human organs, and cold machinery. At its center is a contorted, abnormal human face, complete with mandibles and a TV monitor. This monitor can display a laughing, cartoonish pixelated face or a black and white image of a distorted, yelling human face, speculated to be a representation of Toby Fox himself. The pixelated face features sideways eyes that flash red and green, and a mouth with large, blocky teeth that can seemingly pop out of the screen.
Surrounding this central visage are six curved tubes, each resembling the petals of Flowey's normal form, which flash with the colors of the absorbed SOULs. These tubes become darker as each corresponding SOUL segment is encountered. Attached to the main body are disproportionately long, cactus-like appendages, perpetually moving and housing more tubes filled with teeth, gums, and eyeballs, echoing the structure of the DT Extraction Machine from the True Lab.

A Symphony of Suffering: The Battle Against Omega Flowey
The battle against Omega Flowey is not a traditional RPG encounter but a harrowing bullet hell experience. The protagonist is thrust into a desperate struggle for survival against an onslaught of relentless attacks. Unlike other battles, the usual FIGHT, ACT, ITEM, and MERCY options are initially absent. Should the protagonist fall, a chilling GAME OVER screen appears, featuring Asgore's voice lamenting "This is all just a bad dream…" followed by Flowey's aggressive declaration, "And you're NEVER waking up!" The screen then fills with a scrolling wall of "HAHAHA" as Flowey laughs triumphantly.
Omega Flowey unleashes a barrage of terrifying attacks:
- Eye-Pellet Barrage: Flowey's eyes fire star-shaped projectiles. The upper eyes shoot in triplets, directly targeting the protagonist, while the lower eyes release a random, wide spread of pellets designed to cover the entire playable field.
- Vine Strikes: Lasers flash to map out impending vine attacks, followed by multiple thorny vines descending from the top of the screen, aiming to ensnare the player. This attack can occur in succession, making it difficult to avoid.
- Flamethrowers: Large appendages on either side of the screen unleash streams of fire, forcing the player to constantly reposition. These attacks alternate between the left and right sides.
- Bomb Drops: Flowey releases numerous bombs from the top of the screen that explode upon contact with the bottom, creating hazardous areas.
- Plant Stems with Finger Guns: Stems sprout from the left and right of the screen, firing projectiles.
- Venus Flytrap Growth: Flowey can grow a Venus flytrap from one of his cactus hands, adding another organic threat to the chaotic battlefield.
- Large Beam Attack: A second head, or perhaps a secondary mouth within the main structure, fires a large beam across the center of the screen, heralded by a blue light.
The Intervention of the SOULs
A crucial mechanic of the Omega Flowey battle involves the six human SOULs. After a period of Flowey's relentless assault, a "WARNING" message appears on his TV head, accompanied by a siren. One of Flowey's gray roots flashes a color, indicating which SOUL the protagonist will next face.
Each SOUL segment presents a unique challenge, mirroring their associated traits and items:
- Light Blue SOUL (Integrity): This SOUL is associated with numerous spinning, diagonally moving knives. An "ACT" button appears, which, when interacted with, transforms the knives into green bandages that heal the protagonist for a few seconds.
- Orange SOUL (Bravery): Rings of hands move downwards around the screen, slowly spinning. The "ACT" button replaces one of the gloves, and interacting with it turns the other gloves into green thumbs-ups that heal the protagonist.
- Dark Blue SOUL (Perseverance): A line of stars limits the SOUL's movement window. Ballet shoes scroll in and rise up and down. The "ACT" button replaces a shoe, causing the shoes to rise to the top of the screen and the stars to transform into musical notes that heal the protagonist.
- Purple SOUL (Kindness): Two lines of books flank the screen, generating negative words that scroll horizontally. Interacting with the "ACT" button, which replaces one of these words, causes the books to generate positive, green-colored words that heal the protagonist. The negative words encountered include DEATH, DESPAIR, NIGHTMARE, SADNESS, RUIN, HATRED, TRAPPED, SLAUGHTER, DOOM, TERROR, HORROR, CRUELTY, MURDERER, DESTROY, and CORRUPT. The positive words include LIFE, HOPE, DREAMS, HAPPINESS, SUCCESS, LOVE, FREEDOM, MERCY, LUCK, CALM, RELIEF, KINDNESS, DREAMER, CREATE, and PROTECT.
- Green SOUL (Patience): Three frying pans flip fire below them. One of the fireballs is replaced by the "ACT" button. Interacting with it turns the fire into eggs that heal the protagonist.
- Yellow SOUL (Justice): A gun shoots bullets toward the protagonist's SOUL, indicated by red crosshairs. One of these bullets is replaced by the "ACT" button. Interacting with it transforms the bullets into green four-petal flowers that heal the protagonist.
While the bullets within these SOUL segments can harm the protagonist, they cannot result in a Game Over, only reducing HP to 1. Passing these segments without using the "ACT" button does not progress the fight, leading to the same SOUL segment repeating until assistance is called.

The Turning Tide and Flowey's Desperation
After the protagonist successfully navigates all six SOUL segments, a significant shift occurs. The human SOULs heal the protagonist, drastically reducing Omega Flowey's Defense to 0. His attacks become less potent, primarily limited to weaker eye-pellet barrages. The SOULs continue to provide healing items and allow the protagonist to deal significant damage.
However, Flowey's ultimate weapon is his ability to manipulate SAVE files. Upon being defeated, he reloads SAVE File 3, a file he created at the start of the battle, resetting progress and health as a taunt. He repeats this action, killing the protagonist and reloading the file dozens of times in rapid succession, a chilling display of his power and a desperate attempt to break the protagonist's spirit. He mocks the protagonist, daring them to call for help.
When the protagonist finally interacts with the "ACT" button, a call for help is made. Initially, nothing happens, leading Flowey to utter his infamous line, "…But nobody came." As his "friendliness pellets" close in to deliver the final blow, a miraculous event occurs. The pellets, instead of killing the protagonist, fully restore their HP, and the remaining pellets vanish. This is the SOULs intervening once more, fighting back against Flowey, draining his power, and destroying his monstrous form, reducing him back to a battered, regular flower.

The Aftermath and Lingering Dread
The conclusion of the Omega Flowey battle offers a choice: kill or spare Flowey.
- Killing Flowey: If the protagonist chooses to kill Flowey, he remarks, "I knew you had it in you!" before succumbing and returning to his simple flower form. This action, however, has consequences for future playthroughs.
- Sparing Flowey: If Flowey is spared, he becomes increasingly confused and frustrated by the protagonist's mercy, unable to comprehend their actions after his attempts to kill them and his threats. He insists he has not changed and would still kill them and their loved ones if given the chance.
The game remembers the player's choice. In subsequent Neutral Route playthroughs, Flowey's dialogue and actions change based on whether he was killed or spared. If killed, he questions if the protagonist believed their actions would make a difference and warns that he will return each time they load their SAVE. If spared, he acknowledges that the human SOULs would likely revolt again if he attempted to absorb the protagonist's SOUL.
The battle's design and themes draw parallels to EarthBound's final boss, Giygas, particularly in the protagonist's calls for help and Flowey's taunting dialogue. The concept of a powerful, reality-bending entity and the struggle against overwhelming despair are central to both encounters.
Omega Flowey represents a dark, corrupted pinnacle of power within Undertale, a testament to the destructive potential of absorbed determination and a stark reminder of the consequences of unchecked malice. He is a nightmare made manifest, a boss battle that lingers in the player's memory long after the credits roll.
